LED face mask: what is proven, what is marketing and how to use it

LED masks have moved from dermatology clinics into bathrooms. They work on a simple principle: light of a specific wavelength penetrates the skin and stimulates processes that slow down with age. It is not a miracle – it is a routine that pays off after weeks, not evenings.

What each colour does

  • Red light (630–660 nm) – supports collagen production and circulation; skin looks firmer and more even. The base of every LED routine.
  • Blue light (415 nm) – works against the bacteria behind blemishes; suits skin prone to breakouts.
  • Infrared (850 nm) – penetrates deeper, complements red light for fine lines and recovery.
  • Yellow / green – softens redness and tone; good for sensitive skin.

How much and how often

The recommended routine is 10 minutes, 3–5 times a week, on clean skin without make-up. Results appear after 4–8 weeks of regular use – so fold the mask into a routine you already have (an evening episode, say) rather than treating it as a separate "procedure".

Safety and contraindications

The LED light in home masks is not UV; it does not tan or damage the skin. Do not use the mask during photosensitising treatment (some antibiotics, high-dose retinoids), consult a doctor in pregnancy, and keep your eyes closed or protected – our mask has built-in eye protection.

What to combine the mask with

Apply a light hydrating serum before the mask (hyaluronic acid, niacinamide) and a richer cream after. Keep actives such as retinol and acids for other evenings. For the eye area the LED EYE perfector helps – a smaller device with a more precise shape that fits where the mask doesn't.

LED or radiofrequency?

LED works with light and is contact-free; radiofrequency heats deeper layers and "tightens" more. They don't exclude each other – the RF eye-area device can be used on the days the mask stays on the shelf. If you are starting out, LED is the easier start.

Caring for the mask

After each use wipe the inside with a damp, alcohol-free cloth and store it in its case out of direct sun. The battery lasts about 10 sessions; charge with the USB-C cable from the box.
